Two armed and masked men have escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash following a raid on a cash-in-transit van in Shercock, Co Cavan.

The incident happened when a security man was stopped by the two raiders as he approached the door of the National Irish Bank branch, at around 11.30am this morning.

The raiders grabbed the cashbag, which contained an undisclosed amount of money.

It is believed they fled in a blue saloon car which was seen heading in the Cootehill direction.

The security man was traumatised but physically unharmed during the robbery.

The area around the bank remains sealed off.
