Man arrested over Wicklow shooting

A man in his 20s has been arrested by gardaí investigating a shooting in Aughrim, Co Wicklow.

The man is being detained at Arklow Garda Station.

The victim, who is in his 50s, is being treated at St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as critical.

The shooting took place just before 4.30pm at Three Wells Farm.

He was shot once in the upper body by another man using a shotgun.

There was no sign of a break in or robbery at the farm.

The area has been sealed off as a crime scene and a forensic examination will be carried out later.
