Two men are still being questioned in connection with the murder of Frankie Heneghan in Kiltimagh, Co Mayo.

The 24-year-old father of three died from multiple stab wounds following an incident in a laneway at the rear of the town's Main Street in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The second man to be arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the construction worker's death was taken into custody in the Kiltimagh area this afternoon.

He is now being held at Swinford Garda Station where the murder investigation team is based.

Last night, gardaí arrested a man in his mid-20s for questioning about the fatal stabbing.

Both men can be held for up to 24 hours.

A large force of gardaí has spent the day searching buildings, overgrown hedges and areas of open ground around the scene of the fatal stabbing in what is believed to be an ongoing search for a murder weapon.

House-to-house inquires have also continued during the afternoon.

This morning, gardaí said they had received a 'great deal of valuable information' from the public following an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Supt Ronan Galligan said it has helped them build up a clearer picture of the events which led up to the fatal stabbing and he again urged anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
