One of the three Irish women who survived a plane crash in Thailand yesterday has spoken of her relief at walking away from the fatal crash virtually unscathed.

Aoife Creamer, 25, from Rush in north Co Dublin, her 20-year-old sister Orlagh and their friend Lesley Dowdall, 23, from Swords, were aboard the Bangkok Airways plane when it skidded off the runway of an airport in Koh Samui.

The pilot was killed and several other people injured.

The three were travelling to the holiday island as part of a six-week trip to South-East Asia.

Aoife paid tribute to the emergency services at the airport who she said acted rapidly in responding to the incident.

She also thanked the ground staff who had provided them with help and accommodation in the aftermath of the crash.

The party now plans to cut short their holiday and return to Ireland as soon as possible.
