The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering a young father in Co Cavan last year has been sent home for a second night without reaching a verdict.

34-year-old Trevor McCabe of Mountpleasant, Ballyconnell, denies the murder of 33-year-old Darren McGrath at his Belturbet home in May 2008.

Mr McGrath was shot twice in the head as he slept in the upstairs bedroom.

Jurors began their deliberations yesterday and were sent home yesterday night after failing to reach a verdict.

Today the jurors were also unable to reach a verdict and were excused for a second night.

The case has involved a cross-border investigation between gardaí and the PSNI.
