A 61-year-old former Christian Brother has pleaded guilty to 36 counts of indecent assault on pupils at a school in Limerick city in the 1960s.

Sean John Drummond of Broadford Drive, Ballinteer in Dublin, pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting 19 boys.

The offences occurred at Creagh Lane National School on Bridge Street in Limerick on dates unknown between July 1967 and July 1968.

One of the assaults happened at a festival in a city theatre on the same dates.

The victims were aged between eight and nine at the time of the assaults.

Sentencing in the case was adjourned until 6 October for the presentation of a number of reports to the court by the defence.

Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin ordered that Drummond be placed on the sex offenders' register and that he be remanded on bail until the sentencing hearing.

He also ordered that the anonymity of the victims be preserved until such time as they decide to waive that at a later date.
