Gardaí in Co Kerry are treating the death of a 17-year-old, whose body was discovered on the side of a road in Killarney, as murder.

Stephen Lyne, from Castlefalls, was found near the Ross Road in the town at around 1.30am this morning.

He died within half a mile of his home and is believed to have been stabbed.

His body was close to the road and would have been visible to passers-by. It was not thought to have been there long.

A post mortem examination to establish the cause of Mr Lyne's death has been carried out at Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who saw Mr Lyne between 9.30pm last night and 1.30am this morning when his body was discovered to contact them at Killarney Garda Station on 064-31222 or on the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111.
