A 20-year-old man has died following a shooting off the Malahide Road in Dublin last night.
Thomas Joyce was shot a number of times by a gunman who pulled up in a car on Grove Lane. He died later in hospital.
He was reportedly known to gardaí as being involved in drugs and gun crime.
Gardaí believe a number of gunmen were involved in the shooting.
The getaway car, which is thought to have been a blue Ford Focus, has since been found burned out in the Balgriffifin College area.
A post mortem examination on Thomas Joyce's body is now under way.
Mr Joyce was named in the High Court earlier this year by the head of the Criminal Assets Bureau as a member of a well organised north Dublin drug trafficking gang.
Detective Chief Superintendent John O'Mahony said that Thomas Joyce had never worked and there was no record of an income for him and yet he had amassed considerable wealth from criminal activities.
The CAB took two vehicles worth over €100,000 from him, and officers from Coolock have raided the halting site and the surrounding area where he lived a number of times, and seized guns, ammunition, cocaine and cannabis.
