Taoiseach Brian Cowen has told the Dáil that the Moriarty Tribunal has cost a total of €36.25 million to date.
Mr Cowen said the cost for 2009 to the end of May was €1.78 million.
The tribunal was established in September 1997 to look into payments to politicians and related matters.
