A number of houses were evacuated in Ennis in Co Clare after a hand grenade was thrown into one of them early this morning.
It is understood the grenade was thrown through the front door of the house on Childers Road.
Gardaí sealed off the premises and evacuated four houses on either side as a precaution.
The army bomb disposal team arrived on the scene at around 8.45am following a request from gardaí.
The bomb disposal team examined the viable hand grenade, which was of Eastern European origin.
No controlled explosion was carried out at the scene.
The grenade had failed to detonate at the house.
It was removed and the bomb disposal officer declared all clear at 11.00am. The grenade was destroyed at a nearby quarry.
It is believed the incident may be connected to a feud between a number of Traveller families in the town.
