In the European elections, an RTÉ exit poll shows that Fianna Fáil is likely to lose its seat in Dublin, while Fine Gael may balance the loss of its second seat in East by snatching a surprise second seat in the South.

The Lansdowne Market Research poll, for RTÉ and the Sunday Independent, also predicts a Labour gain in the East constituency.

The exit poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5%, but it does give us some pointers for tomorrow's count.

In Dublin, Proinsias de Rossa on 25% and Gay Mitchell on 21% look safe, while Mary Lou McDonald on 15% appears to have the edge over ae Eoin Ryan and Joe Higgins, both on 11.

In East, Mairead McGuinness on 255 and Nessa Childers on 20% look good, while Liam Aylward on 16% looks set to hold off John Paul Phelan on 13%.

But if Fine Gael look like losing a seat in East, they could spring a surprise in South.

Brian Crowley tops the poll on 23%, closely followed by Sean Kelly on 20%.

But Fine Gael's Colm Burke, on 13%, could snatch the last seat on transfers, ahead of Toiréasa Ferris on 14%, and Alan Kelly on 10%.

Finally to North West, where Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher on 21% and Jim Higgins on 19% should take seats, while Marian Harkin on 13% may hold off the challenge of Declan Ganley and Joe O'Reilly on 10%.
