A band manager who raped a teenage singer after plying her with alcohol has been jailed for 11-and-a-half years.

Gary Mason, 46, from Lisburn in Co Antrim was convicted of two counts of rape and five of indecent assault between April and December 2006.

The court heard that when the girl began singing for the band, Mason actively encouraged her to drink alcohol and that he would drive her home.

When alone with the teenager, Mason subjected her to sexual abuse and then raped her.

The judge told Mason he had ruined the girl's teenage years, which should have been a time of joy.
