The Belfast High Court has heard that Chinese women, who were forced into prostitution after answering advertisements for nannies in Northern Ireland, were paid £20 per week.

Details of the suspected vice ring were revealed, with a former police officer in Northern Ireland, who is accused of helping to run the racket and transport victims, being refused bail.

The prosecution has claimed that 39-year-old Simon Dempsey from Co Down was the ' enforcer' in the prostitution ring.

Dempsey, a former policeman who left the PSNI five years ago, was arrested at Belfast ferry port with two Chinese women who told police they were in great fear.

They had answered adverts offering £220 a week for nannies only to be forced to work as prostitutes.

One woman said she had been with seven clients a day, and was paid £20 a week.

Dempsey, who claimed he had been duped by others involved in the vice ring, was refused bail because police feared he could flee Northern Ireland or interfere with witnesses.
