Customs officers from the Revenue Commission have seized over 3m cigarettes in Rosslare Europort.
The cigarettes, which represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €1.2m, were seized this morning on a ferry from France to Rosslare Europort, Co Wexford.
The cigarettes, including the brand names L&B, Regal and Superkings, were hidden in a 40-foot container and were described as 'Bananas'.
The lorry-driver, from Northern Ireland, was released after being questioned.
Investigations involving other European enforcement agencies are continuing in the matter.
The cigarettes were discovered following risk-profiling by Customs
officers.
