A man convicted of the double murder of two teenagers in Co Armagh in 2000 has been told he will have to serve at least 30 years in prison.

Stephen Brown was found guilty of the murders of 19-year-old Andrew Robb and 18-year-old David McIlwaine, who both had their throats cut on a country road near Tandragee.

Passing sentence, Judge John Gillen, said ‘these crimes are so horrendous, they represent unbridled mindless violence and total disregard for the value and dignity of human life’.

He said the murders were cold blooded and barbaric and two of the most gruesome killings in the past 40 years in the North.

Speaking outside the court, Andrew Robb’s mother, Anne, said she thought justice had been done but added, ‘I think he should have got the full life term because I have been given a full life term.’
