Dublin Circuit Criminal Court - Man jailed for nine years

A 39-year-old man who was caught in a garda surveillance operation carrying almost €1m worth of heroin in a rucksack has been jailed for nine years.

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, William Quinn of Dolphin House in Dublin pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs at Grove Road, Finglas and New Market Square, Dublin, his then home, on 12 October, 2007.

Judge Katherine Delahunt said that the prosecuting garda believed that Quinn had 'sought to minimise his role' by claiming that he had got involved in the enterprise because of a drug debt.

However, the court accepted that he had been in genuine fear of those he had been working for.
