An Irish priest has been sentenced to four years in jail by a court in Florida after he was found guilty of stealing money from parish funds.
Father Francis Guinan, 66, from Co Offaly was found guilty last week of the grand theft of between $20,000 (€14,870) and $100,000 (€74,370) from St Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in West Palm Beach.
In court today the judge said 'his legacy is one of thievery and deceit'.
Fr Guinan was sentenced to four years in a Florida prison with another 11 years probation following the completion of his sentence.
A number of Irish priests spoke on behalf of Fr Guinan during the court case.
