Around 230 Dell employees at the company's Cherrywood and Limerick operations are to lose their jobs over the next six months.

While the company is not giving out exact figures for the cuts, RTÉ understands that 10% of staff are to be lost in Dublin and Limerick.

Meetings were held with 2,300 staff members at the two locations this morning to announce the move.

It is understood that 130 people will be let go at the company's operations at Cherrywood near Loughlinstown in Dublin, with a further 100 losses at its plant in Limerick.

Dell has already let 1,900 workers go in Limerick, and 250 in Cherrywood.

Cherrywood is home to Dell's sales operation for the Irish market and to the home and small/medium business sector of the UK market.

The EMEA Enterprise Expert Centre - which provides high-level enterprise technical support for customers across EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) - is also located in Cherrywood.
