A man has died while in custody at Navan Garda Station in Co Meath.
The 52-year-old was taken into custody yesterday afternoon for public order reasons having reportedly consumed a large amount of alcohol.
Late last night, gardaí found that they could not wake the man and medical assistance was called.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post mortem examination is to be carried out by State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy.
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Garda Ombudsman Commission.
