A man has been critically injured in a gun attack in Dublin.

The Moldovan man, aged in his 30s, was sitting in a car when he was approached and shot by a lone gunman in the carpark of the Garda Sports and Social Club at Westmanstown, near Lucan, just before 1pm.

A number of off-duty and unarmed gardaí, who heard the shots, disarmed the gunman and arrested him.

The arrested man, who is in his 30s and believed to be also from Moldova, is being detained at Lucan Garda Station.

Two firearms were recovered.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

The injured man is being treated at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

The Garda Sports and Social Club in Westmanstown is also open to non-garda members.
