Taxi drivers stage second protest

Protest - Opposition to the number of licences being issued
Protest - Opposition to the number of licences being issued

SIPTU taxi drivers have held a second protest as part of a campaign to be allowed to appeal decisions made by the taxi regulator.

The union says it has been calling for the introduction of an appeals process since September 2006.

SIPTU members held a picket at Dublin Airport from 11am this morning to 2pm this afternoon, their second demonstration in a week.

Another protest will take place in the city centre by drivers opposed to the number of licences being issued by the regulator.

The union is seeking a moratorium on new taxi licences, and SIPTU says drivers will step up their protest action if the Government do not respond to their demands.
