A murder investigation is under way after a woman, who was found with stab wounds, died in a Dublin hospital.

The 28-year-old woman was found with serious injuries in a flat complex in Ranelagh this evening.

Gardaí were called to the scene shortly after 7pm.

The woman was found in a building that is used by Dublin City Council as part of a resettlement accomodation programme for homeless men.

It is understood the woman was visiting the complex at the time of the attack.

Following the stabbing she was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where she later died.

A 43-year-old man is being questioned in connection with her death at Donnybrook Garda Station.

Gardaí from the technical bureau are at the scene and are conducting a examination.
