Warning over cost of anti-racism work

The Government has been warned the taxpayer will pay significantly more if it is to continue with the work carried out by the anti-racism body axed in the Budget.

The National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism made the warning over the research and training it has been doing since it was set up 11 years ago.

Launching a review of the NCCRI's work, Chairperson Anastasia Crickley thanked the dozen staff who are losing their jobs because of the Government's withdrawal of €500,000 in core funding.

Among the wide range of activities undertaken was the recent training of all gardaí above the rank of Inspector on the challenges of policing in an intercultural society.
