Five people who were detained after an attempted robbery at a credit union in Dublin have been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A 4x4 vehicle attempted to gain entrance to the credit union in Rathfarnham village by ramming the front door shortly after it closed for business at 5pm on Friday afternoon.

There were reports of shots fired, but the vehicle quickly left the scene. It was found abandoned in the Orwell Park area a short time later.

Nobody was injured and no money was stolen.

Four men and one woman were detained in relation to the incident but have now been released.
