150 workers at the Aviance airport ground handling company at Dublin airport have voted to accept a survival plan which will save their jobs.

Earlier this week, Aviance announced it was closing its Dublin operation in March, making all staff redundant.

However, following negotiations between SIPTU and management, a survival plan was devised to reduce the cost base without extensive job losses.

The survival plan, which was accepted by 67% of workers, involves a 15 % pay cut and significant roster changes.

However, staff will retain certain entitlements including sick pay and leave days.

A spokesperson for Aviance said that while they had not yet been formally notified that staff had accepted the survival plan, they would obviously be very pleased if that is the case.

He said the company would now be looking to meet the unions very quickly to see if the survival plan can be implemented.

Aviance contracts with airliners like British Airways, Gulf Air, Lufthansa and BMI for ground handling services.
