A man who spent 14 years on the run has been jailed for four years for his part in an assault in Limerick which resulted in a man's death.
40-year-old Gregory Conway from Dundalk, Co Louth, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court today to unlawfully wounding Denis Quinlivan at Palm Court, Keyes Park, Southill, Limerick, on 3 September 1991.
He was due to stand trial for the offence in June 1992 but failed to turn up for his court date.
A bench warrant was issued for his arrest, but he went on the run and the bench warrant was not executed until June 2006.
The court heard that Mr Conway assaulted the victim by kicking him and hitting him with a rock.
Mr Quinlivan died from his injuries six weeks after the assault, on 5 November 1991.
