A father who raped one of his daughters as well as sexually abusing both her and her sister on a daily basis over their childhood has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Handing down the sentence, Mr Justice Paul Carney said he was taking into account the gratuitous and sadistic cruelty involved, the multiplicity of the offences and the violation of his daughters' trust.
The 59-year-old father of five from Co Cork, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to 12 sample counts of sexually assaulting two of his daughters and one count of raping one of them.
One of the daughters, who is now 37, was abused from the age of 6 to 11.
In her victim impact statement read out in court, she said she was sexually abused by her father on a daily basis throughout her childhood describing him as a sadist who was nice to her during the abuse but punished her at other times by making her stand to attention for up to eight hours, giving her Chinese burns on her arms and threatening her with a leather belt.
The woman's younger sister, who is now 33, suffered similar abuse from the age of 6.
In her statement to the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork, she said she often asked during her childhood ‘Do all daddies do this?’
Mr Justice Carney ordered that the man's name be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and that he be subject to post-release supervision for five years after his release.
