Police in Northern Ireland have issued an appeal for information on the whereabouts of convicted sex offender Ernest George Finlay.

The PSNI says the man has failed to comply with his post-custody conditions and that he poses a serious public risk.

The public are requested not to approach this person, but are asked to contact police (+44 845 600 8000) if they think they may know of his whereabouts.

Police are also appealing to Mr Finlay to hand himself in at the nearest police station.

He is described as being 1.77m (5'8") tall, of medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair. He also has a small gap between his upper two front teeth and several tattoos, three of which are on his arms and include pictures of a horse's head.

The appeal comes as Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern travels to Belfast to review progress in cross-border security with Northern Ireland Security Minister Paul Goggins.

It is expected that they will focus on an agreement, signed by gardaí and the PSNI last month, to share knowledge in relation to the investigation of sexual offences and the monitoring of convicted offenders.
