RTÉ is to make cuts worth more than €50m to its budget for 2009 to avoid a deficit, a Dáil committee was told.
RTÉ's Chief Financial Officer, Conor Hayes, told the Oireachtas Committee on Communications that the station is seeking agreement with all managers for a range of cuts in remuneration from 5 -17.5% for next year.
He said that senior managers had already accepted a cut.
Mr Hayes said the cuts were part of a belt-tightening exercise throughout the organisation, which also included the proposal to defer the payment of the national pay agreement to all workers.
Mr Hayes said costs had to be cut as revenue this year would be down by about €27m.
Replying to questions about the high pay of some broadcasters, Mr Hayes said that because advertising revenue was down, every effort was being made to cut all costs.
