Former Sinn Féin director of publicity Danny Morrison has had a kidnapping conviction against him quashed by the Court of Appeal in Belfast this morning.
Mr Morrison was sentenced to eight years in jail over the false imprisonment of Sandy Lynch in 1990.
He was one of those arrested that year and charged with false imprisonment and conspiracy to murder Sandy Lynch, an IRA man allegedly working for the British security services.
Mr Morrison was released from jail in 1995.
Today the convictions against him were quashed after the Court of Appeal decided they could no longer be considered safe.
The decision to overturn the convictions was based on a dossier supplied by the Criminal Cases Review Commission, which reviews suspected miscarriages of justice. The public prosecution service wants to keep hidden the contents of that dossier.
Outside the court, Danny Morrison said he had always asserted that he was set up and lured to the house where Sandy Lynch was being held.
He welcomed what he said were the positive elements in today's decision but confirmed he will seek the details of what was contained in the confidential annex.
