The jury in the trial of 39-year-old Dublin man accused of murdering a man he kicked to death and set on fire has been sent to a hotel for the night.

Alan Walsh of 43 Edenmore Park in Coolock denies the murder of Dermot Sheridan at Seafield Road in Clontarf in August last year.

The jury found him guilty of arson by a unanimous verdict and will now attempt to reach a majority verdict on the murder charge.

The eight-day trial heard the accused had kicked Mr Sheridan to death and set him on fire in a derelict house.

The row had broken out after a day's drinking when the victim made comments about Alan Walsh's father.
