The death has taken place of RTÉ journalist Richard Murphy.
He was 49 years old and had been ill for some time.
Richard worked with the Cork Examiner newspaper and joined RTÉ in 1988.
He worked in RTÉ News as a radio reporter, and later as Sub-Editor of radio and television news bulletins.
He was appointed Managing Editor of RTÉ.ie and Aertel in 2001.
Richard was also a playwright and a number of his plays were broadcast on RTÉ Radio.
