Killester - Man dies after raid

Two men are being questioned following the death of a man in a robbery at a supermarket in Killester in Dublin.

Paul Howe, 23, from Tallaght, who gardaí believe was carrying out the raid at the Supervalu store, was attacked and stabbed a number of times as he tried to escape.

It is understood he was one of two men, armed with a knife, who stole a quantity of cash from the store before attempting to escape. Detectives are still searching for the second raider.

They were followed out of the store by a number of people before being confronted at the back of the supermarket.

Gardaí were called to the scene at around 8.30pm last night and found Mr Howe with serious injuries near the supermarket car park.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he later died.

A post mortem examination will be carried out by the State Pathologist.

A man in his 30s was arrested last night and a second man, aged in his 20s, was detained this morning.

A knife was recovered following a search this afternoon and the scene of the incident remains sealed off.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Killester area between 8pm and 9pm last night to contact Clontarf Garda Station on 01-6664800.
