Tyco - Staff called to meeting on jobs

Staff at Tyco Safety Products in Cork have been called to a meeting tomorrow where they are expected to be told over 200 jobs will be lost at the plant.

The jobs are expected to go by the end of next year.

The company currently employs 250 at its plant on the Model Farm Road on the outskirts of Cork city.

Tyco assembles electronic anti-theft tags that are attached to merchandise in stores.

Last month the company said it would conduct a worldwide review.

It is understood that it now plans to move its operations to a location where the work can be done for less.

It is hoped a small number of positions will be retained, but this has yet to be confirmed.

The IDA said it did not wish to comment at this time.

The news is the second blow for for Cork in 24 hours.

Yesterday it emerged 150 jobs are at risk in Cork manufacturing company Swissco.
