Two men have been arrested after a 25-year-man was shot dead in a bookmakers on Killester Avenue in Dublin.

The men were arrested in Tallaght this evening. A van has also been seized by gardaí investigating the murder.

The victim was shot at Byrne’s Bookmakers on Killester Avenue in Donneycarney shortly before 3pm.

A lone gunman entered the premises and singled out his victim before shooting him at least once in the head.

The gunman made his escape on the motorbike which was later found burned-out at nearby La Vista Lane.

The victim is believed to have been known to Gardaí and had been a subject of the Operation Anvil investigation into serious crime.

Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, has carried out a preliminary examination of the scene. The victim's body has been removed and a post mortem examination is expected to be carried out later.
