Armed robbers fired up to two gunshots and held a woman at knifepoint during a service station raid in Co Limerick last night.

No one was injured in the incident which took place in Foynes at around 10.45pm last night.

A woman who was sitting in her car outside the station was approached by a man who took her out of the car and led her into the shop at knifepoint.

The man in the shop was then joined by two other men. One was armed with what was believed to be a single-barrel shotgun and the other had what was believed to be a pump action shotgun.

The tills were emptied and the raiders left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The raiders are described as being 1.7m tall with slim build. All their faces were covered and they were wearing dark clothing.
