Michael Flatley’s plans to build a dream island home have been dealt a blow after Kerry County Council refused to grant planning permission.

The Lord of the Dance star, who has homes in Fermoy, Barbados, France, Chicago and London, had applied to build a new house on Rossmore Island, near Sneem.

Mr Flatley has an agreement to buy the 22 hectare island from the O’Shea family in Kent, England, but his plans to build a traditional five bedroomed home and courtyard on the island were rejected today.

A spokesman for Kerry County Council said it was felt it would interfere with the character of the landscape by virtue of its design, scale and sighting.

Mr Flatley has four weeks to appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanála.
