Former GP Pascal Carmody has told his trial at Ennis Circuit Court that he cannot cure cancer, and that if he did say this to anyone it would be absolutely wrong.
He has also denied treating cancer patient John J Gallagher, who was terminally ill, with photodynamic therapy at his clinic in Killaloe.
Mr Gallagher's family claim he told them he had a magical cure for cancer.
On his third day in the witness box Mr Carmody is being cross-examined about his treatment for cancer on Mr Gallagher.
Mr Gallagher had widespread cancer of the stomach and liver and died in September 2002.
He visited Mr Carmody's clinic at the end of January 2002.
Mr Carmody denies he ever treated Mr Gallagher with photodynamic therapy.
He accepted he gave him a four months supply of medication costing over €900, but claims it was to deal with the side effects of chemotherapy, and not as suggested by the Counsel for the State to build-up the patient for PDT.
He has also denied that he told Mr Gallagher and his family that he had a magical cure for cancer, or that he would hold his cancer at bay or even destroy it.
He could not explain how Bernie Gallagher, Mr Gallagher’s wife, knew that Mr Carmody's former accountant had died of cancer.
Counsel says she could only know this information because Mr Carmody told her.
Mr Carmody also said he carried out a medical examination of another cancer patient, 15-year-old Conor O’Sullivan, every day that he saw him at his clinic as was his practise with every patient.
Conor's mother Christina gave evidence that Mr Carmody never physically examined her son.
