An architect has told the Mahon Tribunal that property developer Owen O'Callaghan paid him £10,000 for letting him stay in his Dublin home.

Ambrose Kelly also said he made up an invoice to cover a £10,000 loan from Mr O'Callaghan, who recorded both payments as planning expenses.

Mr Kelly said Owen O'Callaghan would stay in his house three or four times a week in 1991 and more occasionally after that.

He would also drive the Cork developer around Dublin in his car.

Mr Kelly said Mr O'Callaghan presented him with a cheque for £10,000 one day in September 1992 saying it was for this and he just classed it as a gift.

Patricia Dillon SC for the inquiry pointed out that this was recorded as planning expense by Mr O'Callaghan in respect of the proposed national stadium at Neilstown.

Mr Kelly also said he received £10,000 from Mr O'Callaghan in March 1992 to pay a debt to a third-party.

He sent an invoice for planning work even though this was not true.

Mr Kelly said he did not know why the invoice was made out to Tom Gilmartin's company but he assumed Mr O'Callaghan told him to do this.
