The storage of the electronic voting machines cost almost €500,000 last year.
Minister for the Environment John Gormley told the Dáil that this was a decrease from the 2006 figure of more than €700,000.
€139,000 has been spent on storage of the machines so far this year.
Minister Gormley also said that over 60% the machines representing 4,762 were moved into central storage space at Gormanstown army camp last year.
The cost to move the equipment and to store it has cost €308,000.
Minister Gormley said that storage space is now full and his officials are looking at other premises to see if they can centrally store the rest of the machines.
He also said that further costs will be incurred as a result of the buy-out of local leases.
