Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has said the Government will tighten up the law on the licensing of guns.
Mr Ahern told the Dáil there has been a rise in the number of gun licences issued.
The minister said he intended to bring forward amendments to current legislation in order to restrict licensing and curb the proliferation of guns.
