A 21-year-old Limerick man has appeared in court charged with possessing a false passport.
Gerard Dundon, Hyde Road, Limerick was arrested yesterday as he tried to board a flight to Amsterdam at Cork Airport.
Mr Dundon was charged at a special sitting of Cork District Court today with possessing a false passport in the name of Terence Ruth, as he tried to board the flight to Amsterdam.
Detective Garda Eamonn Feehan claimed Mr Dundon also had false travel documents in that name and that he continued to claim he was Terence Ruth when questioned.
He said Mr Dundon had only given his real name when he was arrested and brought to Togher Garda Station.
Mr Dundon told the court he had been advised by gardaí in Limerick that his life was in danger, and he was only planning to stay in Amsterdam until Sunday.
Mr Dundon was remanded in custody to appear again at Cork District Court on Monday.
