18-year-old in court over Derry murder

An 18-year-old man has appeared before Derry Magistrates Court charged with the murder of Emmett Shiels who was killed in the Creggan area in the early hours of 24 June.

Gary Meenan of Bishop's Street in Derry city was also charged with a number of related firearms offences.

Mr Shiels was a member of a well-known family from Tirchonall Street in Derry city. 

He was working as a pizza delivery driver early on Tuesday morning of last week when he got caught up in a confrontation involving masked gunmen.

Mr Meenan was remanded in custody.
