New figures show there were almost 1m broadband customers in Ireland at the end of March.
The latest report from the Communications Regulator also shows that there are 5.4m mobile phone subscriptions in Ireland.
The latest broadband figures mean 22.9% of the population have access to high speed connections. However that figure is significantly boosted by the numbers signing up for mobile broadband services.
In the first three months of the year, the number of these subscriptions jumped by 46%. While there are improvements on the provision of service, speeds are still a problem.
Almost half of all residential broadband connections have a speed of 1-2 Mbps.
Over 2.3bn texts were sent in the same time period - an average of 156 messages per registered mobile. More than half of all voice calls are now made on mobiles and almost three quarters of people pay in advance for the service.
The number of WiFi Access Points has fallen by 3% in the 12 months to 31 March.
Almost 60% of homes are now getting digital TV. Of the 1.46m households with TVs, just 350,000 are now depending on free-to-air transmissions.
