It has been recommended that amusement parks and fairgrounds should be fitted with CCTV cameras and all mechanical rides should have restraints following the the death of a man on a ghost train two years ago.
Gavin Mason from Artane in Dublin died when he fell from his carriage on a ghost train in Tramore, Co Waterford, in August 2006.
The inquest into his death took place in Waterford.
The 22-year-old was struck by the ghost train and remained unattended to for up to ten minutes before the ride was completely shut off, the coroner’s court in Waterford was told.
The court was also told that operators should assess whether people are 'physically suited' to use the ride and that in the interest of safety, that when the car would come to a halt the whole system follows suit.
Mr Mason and a small group of friends were Tramore to celebrate his 22nd birthday.
The group had been watching a football match at a local pub before arriving at the amusement park on the evening of 26 August.
It is understood that Mr Mason and some friends had been standing in the front section of a carriage when he toppled over.
This carriage then rolled over him before being shunted from behind by another carriage a few seconds later.
