Two brothers appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court last night charged in connection with a shooting last Saturday in which a six-year-old girl was injured.
Christopher Curtain, 38, of Salvia Court in Southill is charged with possession of a semi-automatic shotgun and 11 rounds of ammunition on Yeats Avenue on 31 May.
His 27-year-old brother Paul Curtain of Ballyedmond Rearcross, Co Tipperary, is charged with aiding and abetting a person in possession of a firearm on the same date.
The court heard that neither man made any reply when formally charged at garda stations in Limerick yesterday.
Legal aid was granted to both defendants and solicitor John Herbert was assigned them.
Mr Herbert consented to the State's application for both men to be remanded in custody until Tuesday and said he would be making an application for bail on that day.
Judge Tom O'Donnell remanded both in custody until 10 June.
Two other people arrested in connection with the investigation were released without charge yesterday.
A fifth person, a man in his 20s, was still being held for questioning last night at Bruff Garda Station.
The six-year-old girl, caught up in last weekend's exchange of gunfire in Southill, suffered a superficial injury to her leg when a pellet grazed it.
She was brought to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick but was discharged as her injury was not serious.
