A 33-year-old Cavan man has been charged with the murder of Darren McGrath, who was shot dead in his home in Belturbet 11 days ago.

Trevor McCabe, with an address at 8 Mountpleasant in Ballyconnell Co Cavan, was charged with Mr McGrath's murder this morning.

Sergeant Shane Heslin told the court that Mr McCabe was arrested last night and made no reply when charged.

Judge Sean McBride remanded him in custody to appear before Cloverhill court on 5 June.

Judge McBride asked that the accused, who was on crutches, receive continuing medical attention for an injury to his leg from a motorcycle accident last year.

There was no application for bail and legal aid was granted.

Gardaí said another man who was being questioned in connection with the investigation into Mr McGrath's death has had his period of detention extended.

Two others, a man and a woman, have been released without charge.
