George Redmond - Jury deliberations in trial

The jury in the trial of former Assistant City and County Manager George Redmond has been sent to a hotel for the night and will resume its deliberations in the morning.

Mr Redmond, 83, denies corruptly receiving £10,000 from the late Pat Dunne, a Fianna Fáil Councillor in relation to the compulsory purchase of land at Buzzardstown near Blanchardstown in northwest Dublin in 1985.

The trial, which has lasted 16 days, heard that after his arrest by the Criminal Assets Bureau in 1999, Mr Redmond told gardaí he had received the payment but later told the Flood Tribunal it was not true.

The jury was told it must now decide if Mr Redmond had lied to gardaí or lied under oath to the Flood Tribunal.
