A 19-year-old has appeared at Limerick District Court charged in connection with a stabbing incident in Co Clare last Saturday night.

John O'Loughlin, who has no fixed address, was charged with assault causing harm to a 16-year-old at the Carrig Midhe estate on the night of 10 May.

The court heard he made no reply when charged early this morning.

Gardaí objected to the accused man being granted bail on the grounds that the offence is a serious one, that he had no fixed address, and that he may interfere with witnesses if he was released.

The court also heard that there will be further charges preferred against him in the future.

His father John Hayes gave evidence that he would supervise him at his flat in Mungret street in the city, and an aunt Trish O'Loughlin also said he could reside at her family residence in Garryowen if that was acceptable to the court.

While Judge Tom O'Donnell accepted that Mr O'Loughlin's living arrangements 'were fluid to say the least', he was prepared to grant him bail on his own surety of €250 and an independent cash surety of €2,500 approved by the court and notified to the Gardaí.

He must also give a permanent address to Gardaí. He must observe a nightly curfew and sign on daily at Henry Street Garda station.

Mr O'Loughlan must also provide Gardaí with a permanent address.

The judge remanded the accused in custody until 21 May next until these conditions are met.

Meanwhile the murder investigation into the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Roman Vysochan who died from stab wounds during the same incident last Saturday night is continuing, and a file is being prepared for the DPP, but Gardaí say they are not looking for any other suspects in relation to the killing.
