Teen held over fatal stabbing

The 16-year-old arrested in connection with last night's fatal stabbing of a teenage boy in Co Clare has had his period of detention extended.

The victim, also 16, has been named as Roman Vysochan of Ashley Close, Westbury, Co Clare. He was a Ukrainian National.

He was found lying on the footpath at Carrig Midhe, Westbury, Co Clare, with stab wounds to his chest

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Limerick Regional Hospital.

Another 16-year-old was injured in the same incident and taken to Limerick University Hospital with a stab wound.  He remains in hospital and his injuries are not life threatening.

The scene of the incident has been preserved for technical examination.

Shortly before 8am this morning, the boy, believed to be from Limerick, was arrested in relation to the incident.

He is being detained at Mayorstone Garda Station.
